Bruce Springsteen ‘Heartbroken’ Over Postponed Sept. Shows Due to Peptic Ulcer Disease Symptoms - Rolling Stone

The boss promised to "be back to pick these shows up and then some"

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have postponed all performances scheduled for September, starting with Thursday’s show at JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York.

A post shared to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday stated that the frontman is being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease and that the postponement follows the “the decision of his medical advisors.”

In a statement to fans, the Boss wrote that he and the band are “heartbroken to have to postpone these shows.” He continued, “First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

He ended his message on a hopeful note, saying “We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

Springsteen and The E Street Band were also scheduled to visit several cities across North America this month including Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, and Toronto. No details on whether their December performances in Inglewood and San Francisco were mentioned.

This tour was previously announced in February and followed a six-year break from the road for the E Street Band, their longest since reforming in 1999.

Soon after the tour kicked off, Covid quickly hit E Street as band members Steven Van Zandt and violinist/singer Soozie Tyrell missed Texas gigs after testing positive; saxophonist Jake Clemons and half of the E Street’s touring backup singers also missed subsequent dates.

In March, more shows were postponed “due to illness,” but the band didn’t disclose which members were sick. At the time, Van Zandt assured fans on social media that there was no “need to be anxious or afraid. Nothing serious. Just a temporary situation. We will all be back in full force very soon.” When asked whether the shows were postponed or canceled, the guitarist added, “Postponed. We don’t cancel.”
