Last month, Meghan Markle moderated a conversation with David Oyelowo and Misan Harriman. Harriman, a close friend of Markle, released a debut short film, The After, on Netflix, and the event was to promote the film.
During the conversation, Meghan spoke about her eldest son, Prince Archie Harrison. "The inspiration runs deep," Meghan shared. "Our four-and-a-half year old son—he would say, 'No, I'm not four. I'm four and a half!' —Misan was showing him how to do photography the last time he was with us, and I bought Archie a camera, and he said, 'But it's not a Leica like Misan.' I said, 'You are not getting a Leica! Not even for Christmas.'"
She concluded, telling Harriman, "So thank you for the inspiration across the board." Leica cameras, for those who aren't aware, are very high-end, fancy cameras—not the right present for any four and a half year old.
Meghan, Prince Harry, and their children likely open presents on Christmas Eve, a British royal family tradition. As Harry wrote in Spare, "The whole family gathered to open gifts on Christmas Eve, as always, a German tradition that survived the anglicizing of the family surname from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor. We were at Sandringham in a big room with a long table covered with white cloth and white name cards. By custom, at the start of the night, each of us located our place, stood before our mound of presents. Then suddenly, everyone began opening at the same time. A free-for-all, with scores of family members talking at once and pulling at bows and tearing at wrapping paper."
Yet, the Sussexes won't be with the bigger royal family—they will likely celebrate Christmas at their home in California, while the rest of the royal family gathers at Sandringham for the holiday. Last month, when Meghan made a red carpet appearance at Variety's Power of Women event, she was asked about her children's favorite holiday traditions. "That's a great question. Our little ones are little, and we're enjoying every moment of it."
